Conquering Tabernacle Church
Motto: “We are more than a conqueror.” (Romans 8:37)
Founded in 1996 by Bishop James B. Sumo, Conquering Tabernacle Church was birthed with a clear mandate from God: win souls, make disciples, and advance the Kingdom with power and compassion. From our humble beginning in the United States to our expanding work in Africa, we exist to exalt Jesus Christ and bring His transforming Gospel to every place He sends us.
Our headquarters is in New York City, where Bishop Sumo serves as Senior Pastor while overseeing our growing family of churches in Liberia—currently 11 branches across Monrovia and surrounding regions. We are a Spirit-filled Apostolic Pentecostal church: rooted in Scripture, fervent in prayer, bold in evangelism, and committed to holy living through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our Identity
We are not defined by buildings, titles, or trends—we are defined by the Gospel. In Christ, we are more than conquerors: steadfast in faith, unashamed of truth, and unrelenting in love. We carry the Good News to hearts, homes, and nations with humility and authority.
Our Mission
Win souls for Christ through clear, compassionate, and courageous Gospel proclamation.
Raise and equip disciples to live by faith, holiness, and love—serving God, the church, and the community.
Demonstrate God’s love through practical works of mercy that heal, uplift, and restore.
Our Kingdom Work
Beyond the pulpit, our ministry is hands-on and heart-led. By God’s grace we:
Plant and build churches—houses of prayer, worship, and discipleship.
Establish educational and vocational pathways—supporting schools and skills training so children and youth can rise above poverty.
Champion the next generation—providing resources and opportunities for children, especially in rural and underserved communities.
Provide clean water—building hand pumps in villages to ensure safe drinking water for families.
Strengthen communities—meeting urgent needs, standing with the poor, and serving the vulnerable with dignity.
This is faith that works (James 2:17). This is love that serves (Galatians 5:13). This is the Gospel made visible.
Our Vision
We envision nations transformed by the Word and Spirit: sinners saved, families restored, communities renewed, and leaders raised who carry Christ’s character and power. From New York to Liberia and beyond, we labor to see Jesus known, loved, and followed—until the knowledge of the Lord fills the earth.
What We Believe (In Brief)
God’s Word: The Bible is God-breathed and our final authority for faith and life.
Jesus Christ: Fully God and fully man, crucified and risen, the only Savior and Lord.
The Holy Spirit: Present and powerful today—convicting, indwelling, empowering, and gifting the church.
Salvation: By grace through faith, producing repentance, new life, and holy living.
The Church: One body with many members—called to worship, witness, and works of mercy.
The Great Commission: Our non-negotiable assignment—preach the Gospel and make disciples of all nations.
Our Leadership
Bishop James B. Sumo—Founder, Presiding Bishop, and Pastor of the New York headquarters—leads with a shepherd’s heart and an evangelist’s fire. Under his oversight, pastors and leaders across Liberia and the U.S. serve together in unity of purpose, doctrine, and mission.
Our Commitment
Truth: We preach Christ without compromise.
Presence: We pursue a praying, Spirit-led life.
Holiness: We live set apart for God.
Service: We love our neighbors in word and deed.
Expansion: We plant, build, and send—until every soul hears.
